Cambridge Regional College

Cambridge Regional College is one of the largest Further Education colleges in the Eastern Region, with stunning new facilities at its Science Park campus after a £23million development programme.

The College has state-of-the-art resources, highly qualified lecturers and a growing reputation which is putting it among the top ten FE colleges in the country. There are around 3,500 full-time students and 6,000 part-time students, who come from a 40-mile radius covering Cambridge and its surrounding villages, eastern Bedfordshire, northern Essex and western Suffolk.

Students who study Access to Higher Education courses at the College go on to a wide range of universities all over the country, including Cambridge University.

The extensive Access programmes are specially designed to meet the needs of adult students (aged 19 and over) who wish to return to education so that they can progress to university. Cambridge Regional College’s dynamic courses aim to refresh and extend knowledge, skills and confidence. You will work with like-minded adults to change direction and develop opportunities for the future.
Full-time courses take one year, while part-time Access programmes are available over one, two or three years. Students follow a pathway from the selection listed below and, on completion, progress to study university-level courses.

Courses available at Cambridge Regional College:

Access to HE Diploma (Art & Design)
To gain a full Access to HE Diploma (Art and Design) qualification you need to complete three subjects: Art Practice, Design Practice and Contextual Practice. The qualification is complemented by Life Drawing and Photoshop subjects. In addition to the compulsory Access subjects you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE Maths and English will also be available for study to suit the requirements of individual timetables.

Access to HE Diploma (Business Management)
To gain an Access to HE Diploma (Business Mangagement) you will study Business Studies, Accounting and Sociology as well as a compulsory Study Skills course. In addition to the compulsory Access subjects you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE English and Maths will also be available for study to suit the requirements of individual timetables.

Access to HE Diploma (Environmental Science)
To gain an Access to HE Diploma (Environmental Science) you will study Biology, Environmental Chemistry and Geography, as well as a compulsory Study Skills course. In addition to the compulsory Access subjects you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE English and Maths will also be available for study to suit the requirement of individual timetables.

Access to HE Diploma (Humanities)
To gain an Access to HE Diploma (Humanities) you will study History, English Language and Sociology as well as a compulsory Study Skills course. In addition to the compulsory Access subjects you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE English and Maths will also be available for study to suit the requirement of individual timetables.

Access to HE Diploma (Nursing)
To gain an Access to HE Diploma (Nursing) you will study Human Biology, Psychology and Sociology as well as a compulsory Study Skills course. In addition to the compulsory Access subjects, you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE Maths and English will also be available for study to suit the requirements of individual timetables.

Access to HE Diploma (Science)
To gain an Access to HE Diploma (Science), students choose 3 subjects from a choice of Biology, Maths, Chemistry and Physics, in addition to a compulsory Study Skills course. In addition to the compulsory Access subjects, you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE English and Maths are also available for study to suit the requirements of individual timetables.

Access to HE Diploma (Social Work)
To gain an Access to HE Diploma (Social Work) you will study Human Biology, Psychology and Sociology as well as a compulsory Study Skills course. In addition to the compulsory Access subjects, you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE English and Mathematics will also be available for study to suit requirements of individual timetables.

Access to HE Diploma (Teaching – Humanities) or (Teaching – Science)
To gain an Access to HE Diploma (Teaching) there are two options. On the Humanities pathway subjects studied are English Literature, History and Geography. The Science option has Biology instead of History. Both pathways include a compulsory Study Skills course.

In addition to the Access subjects, you will attend tutorials and have the opportunity to meet with your personal tutor on a one-to-one basis to assist with HE applications. GCSE English and Maths will also be available for study which suit requirements of individual timetables.

Open Days offer an ideal opportunity to find out more about the College and its extensive range of Access courses. Representatives from all courses will be on hand to talk to, as well as students who are currently studying at CRC.
