Lowestoft College

Lowestoft College is based on St Peter’s Street and offers a broad range of full and part-time courses in subjects which range from Art and Design and Boatbuilding to Welding and Care. The College offers a number of apprenticeships as well as courses designed for people looking to improve their English and Maths skills. It can also offer training to meet businesses needs.

Lowestoft College offers a friendly and vibrant place in which to study and has a mix of students of all ages and backgrounds who all want to improve their skills and qualifications. In 2007 Lowestoft College became part of University Campus Suffolk and is now one of five centres in the region to offer a range of Higher Education qualifications including Foundation and Honours degrees.

Lowestoft College runs three Access courses: Art and Design, Health and Life Sciences and Social Work and Social Care Professions.

Access to HE Diploma (Art and Design)
This course covers a broad range of specialised and combined art, craft and design based disciplines. Throughout the programme students undertake studies in the History of Art and Design and are expected to complete two assignments based upon a contextual or historical research topic during the year.

Access to HE Diploma (Social Work and Social Care Professions)
This course provides students with the subject knowledge and skills to progress to a range of courses in Higher Education and future employment in Social Work with a variety of client groups. The course is structured along themes which are linked to issues that relevant people and client groups face.

Access to HE Diploma (Health and Life Sciences)
This course develops the students’ knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the same time as building on their study skills including research techniques, essay and report writing, problem solving and practical investigation. Successful completion of the course can lead to a variety of courses including Ecology, Biomedicine, Nursing and Occupational Therapy.
