The Access to Childcare course is aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in childcare but have little or no experience or relevant qualifications.

It will provide a vital stepping stone for the post 19 student who hasn’t studied at level 3 to progress onto a foundation degree in Children’s Care Learning and Development.

Vocational practice will be an important, mandatory part of the course and will be explicitly linked to learning outcomes and summative assessment in the research project module. The course will

  • provide the student with understanding of children’s development in the first 12 years of life.
  • provide the student with an understanding of holistic factors which influence children’s lives.
  • provide the student with sound underpinning knowledge of relevant curriculum frameworks in both early years practice and the primary school national curriculum.
  • enable the development of basic professional practice skills within childcare, linked to the common core of skills and knowledge, (Children’s Workforce Development Council)
